‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Achieves Unprecedented Box Office Success
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has consistently defied expectations throughout its theatrical run, and six weekends in, its momentum shows no signs of waning. What began as a robust opening has evolved into one of the most historically significant box office performances in recent memory, with the film continuing to dominate a quieter late-summer marketplace.
The film has maintained its number one position at the domestic box office for six consecutive weekends, earning $18 million over the traditional three-day period and an estimated $23.3 million during the extended Labor Day holiday. This marks the longest stretch at the top since 2022’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ which held the number one spot for seven straight weekends, placing Sony’s Marvel sequel on track to match one of the most impressive staying-power records in the industry.
With its domestic total now at $918 million, ‘Brand New Day’ is rapidly approaching ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ which has held the all-time unadjusted domestic box office record of $936 million since 2015. Industry analysts now consider it nearly certain that the film will surpass that record within the next week, officially making it the highest-grossing movie of all time domestically.
This impressive climb is even more remarkable considering the film’s consistency. The sixth-weekend drop of approximately 19 to 20 percent from the previous frame is notably mild for a film this deep into its release, especially given that it lost 158 theaters heading into the weekend. According to Variety, this decline compares favorably against other historic holdovers, including ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ steeper drop at a similar point in its run.
Internationally, ‘Brand New Day’ has surpassed $2.4 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film in cinema history, trailing only ‘Avatar’ at $2.9 billion and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $2.7 billion. While it may not threaten those two titles for the worldwide crown, its trajectory toward the domestic record alone signifies a milestone few films ever achieve.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film stars Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and a large ensemble cast. It opened with the biggest domestic debut in box office history at $360 million, a figure that already surpassed ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ previous opening weekend record. This launch set the tone for a run that has continued to break records at nearly every major milestone.
The film’s dominance has coincided with a historically strong summer season overall. Domestic ticket sales from May through early September reached approximately $4.73 billion, marking 2026 as the second-biggest summer box office season on record when figures aren’t adjusted for inflation, just behind the $4.755 billion total from 2013.

Other releases have struggled to make a mark against ‘Brand New Day’s’ stronghold on the marketplace. Adam Wingard’s ‘Onslaught,’ featuring Adria Arjona, debuted in 13th place with just $1.8 million domestically over the weekend, hindered by a “C” CinemaScore grade and a 54 percent Rotten Tomatoes score that do not bode well for its longevity in theaters.
With the domestic record now within reach and momentum still strong as fall approaches, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ appears poised to conclude its theatrical run as one of the defining box office stories of the decade. Whether it can also mount a serious challenge toward the billion-dollar domestic threshold remains to be seen, but for now, the film continues to rewrite box office history one weekend at a time.
