‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Joins Exclusive Box Office Club with Six Weeks at #1

This summer’s box office has seen its share of surprises, but few have been as consistently impressive as Marvel’s latest web-slinging adventure. While other films have had their flashy debuts, one title has steadfastly held onto the top spot week after week, even during a time when new releases typically vie for attention.

Such remarkable staying power is rare in franchise filmmaking, where even the most beloved sequels often get pushed aside after just a weekend or two. However, as the summer movie season wrapped up over the long Labor Day weekend, this particular Spidey film continued to rise rather than fade away.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has officially spent six consecutive weekends at number one at the domestic box office, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. This achievement makes it only the second superhero film in history to reach this milestone, joining 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in this exclusive club.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film earned approximately $22 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This impressive figure helped it cross the $900 million mark domestically, bringing it closer to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, which holds the all-time domestic record at $936.6 million.

This milestone is particularly significant due to the nature of the streak itself. As noted by Screen Rant, ‘Brand New Day’ has now achieved six consecutive weekends at number one, marking the longest unbroken run at the top for any MCU film. It surpasses the five-weekend streaks set by 2018’s ‘Black Panther’ and its 2022 sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

In contrast, ‘No Way Home’ reached its six-weekend total in a different manner. It spent four consecutive weekends at number one before being dethroned by ‘Scream’, only to climb back for two additional, non-consecutive weekends, according to Screen Rant. ‘Brand New Day’ has maintained its position in one uninterrupted stretch, a noteworthy distinction in the realm of box office performance.

Much of this consistency can be attributed to a lack of strong competition. Screen Rant points out that the films released after Spidey have largely underperformed or flopped, including titles like ‘One Night Only’, ‘The Dog Stars’, ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’, ‘Coyote vs. Acme’, and ‘The End of Oak Street’, none of which posed a serious threat to Spider-Man’s dominance.

On a global scale, the film’s performance is equally impressive. ‘Brand New Day’ has surpassed $2.33 billion worldwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time, trailing only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, after recently overtaking ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. Whether it can eventually catch up to ‘Endgame’s $2.799 billion global total remains to be seen, especially since its early trajectory had it lagging behind that MCU predecessor.

The film wasn’t the only standout during the holiday weekend. Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which also features ‘Brand New Day’ star Tom Holland, secured the number two spot with an estimated $16.4 million, bringing its domestic total to $588.1 million, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

For a franchise that has already redefined the commercial potential of modern Spider-Man films, this new record adds another layer to what is shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical success stories of the year. With the all-time domestic crown potentially within reach in the coming weeks, all eyes are on how far this particular web can stretch.
