Simon Kinberg’s new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy is beginning to take form, and early reports suggest it may become the next significant chapter in the Skywalker saga.

The project was initially announced in 2024, with Kinberg, known for his work on several ‘X-Men’ films, confirmed to be developing three new ‘Star Wars’ movies. These films are widely anticipated to serve as Episodes 10, 11, and 12 of the main saga, continuing the narrative after the original Skywalker storyline.

At the heart of the early development is a lengthy treatment crafted by Kinberg. Kathleen Kennedy noted that this story document spans about 70 pages, outlining the trilogy’s direction and tone. Script work is expected to progress following this foundational stage.

In her exit interview with Deadline, Kennedy stated that Kinberg’s plan is already well advanced in development. She described it as “really what’s up next,” indicating that Lucasfilm prioritizes this project for the franchise’s future.

In March 2025, Kennedy provided another update confirming that the trilogy remains actively in development. She mentioned that Lucasfilm anticipates completed drafts by June 2025 and referred to the project as “the next saga,” suggesting the studio views it as a major continuation rather than a side story or spin-off.

The trilogy is being developed with Kennedy also serving as a producer alongside Kinberg. While full story details are yet to be revealed, the prospect of continuing the Skywalker saga in numbered episodes has sparked discussions among fans. Many are eager to see how the story will connect to previous films and whether it will introduce new characters or revisit familiar ones.

Although the project is in development, the final decision still hinges on Lucasfilm’s new leadership direction. As with many significant ‘Star Wars’ projects, timelines and creative plans can change based on studio decisions. Nevertheless, current reports indicate that Kinberg’s trilogy is among the most advanced film projects currently in progress.

The concept of Episodes 10 through 12 also represents a pivotal moment for the franchise. Following ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ which concluded the Skywalker saga in 2019, Lucasfilm shifted focus toward standalone films and Disney+ series. A return to numbered episodes would signal a renewed effort to continue that core storyline in a structured manner.

For now, the trilogy remains in early development, and no release dates have been announced. However, with a complete treatment and scripts on the horizon, Simon Kinberg’s project appears to be one of the most significant upcoming directions for the ‘Star Wars’ universe, as confirmed through statements from Kathleen Kennedy and reports from Deadline and other industry outlets.
