Few franchises have maintained their charm among fans like James Cameron’s ‘Terminator’ saga, and even fewer sequels have managed to eclipse their predecessors as ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ did in 1991. Over three decades later, the film’s legacy continues to bring its stars together for increasingly frequent reunions.

This month, several members of the iconic cast gathered once again, this time in London. This reunion is part of a growing trend over the past year, with cast members meeting at fan conventions across the Atlantic as the film approaches its 35th anniversary.

Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick, who portrayed John Connor and the shape-shifting T-1000, reunited at the For the Love of Sci-Fi and Fantasy convention in London. Patrick shared a photo of the duo, captioning it, “Found John Connor in London. Turns out the T-1000 just needed a plane ticket.”

This London meetup followed an earlier reunion in December, where Furlong, Patrick, Linda Hamilton, and Michael Biehn appeared together at Steel City Con near Pittsburgh. This marked one of the most complete gatherings of the ‘Terminator’ cast in recent memory, allowing fans to see stars from both the original 1984 film and its 1991 sequel together.

‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ is widely celebrated as the pinnacle of the franchise, grossing over 520 million dollars globally and winning four Academy Awards upon its release. The film also marked Furlong’s acting debut, as he was discovered at a Boys & Girls Club in Pasadena and cast by Cameron in one of the era’s most significant productions.

This film remains the only ‘Terminator’ installment featuring both Furlong and Patrick together on screen, making their periodic reunions particularly special for long-time fans. Although Furlong’s likeness was later used digitally in 2019’s ‘Terminator: Dark Fate,’ the role of John Connor has since been portrayed by various actors in the franchise’s sequels and spin-offs, including Nick Stahl, Christian Bale, and Jason Clarke.

Patrick has continued to work steadily in television and film since his breakout role, occasionally revisiting the T-1000 character in smaller cameos, including appearances in ‘Wayne’s World 2’ and ‘Last Action Hero.’ Both actors have taken notably different paths since ‘Judgment Day,’ but their joint appearances at conventions have consistently garnered enthusiastic responses from fans eager to see the on-screen rivals reunited in real life.

Despite the ongoing enthusiasm from fans for cast reunions, the ‘Terminator’ franchise remains in limbo regarding new films. Plans for sequels following 2019’s ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ were shelved after the film’s commercial underperformance, leaving the series without a clear path forward for new theatrical releases.

This uncertainty has amplified the importance of these recurring cast reunions, which have become a primary way for fans to engage with the franchise’s legacy in the absence of new film content. With Furlong, Patrick, Hamilton, and other cast members actively participating in the convention circuit, these gatherings have effectively kept the spirit of ‘Judgment Day’ alive, even as its cinematic future remains uncertain.

For a film that redefined blockbuster filmmaking in the early 1990s, witnessing its cast reconnect decades later serves as a fitting tribute to the enduring impact it has had on pop culture.
