Eric Kripke, the creator of ‘The Boys’, has shared insights about a surprising moment in the latest episode of the series. This moment features a cameo from Samuel L. Jackson, who portrays a character named Xander.

As the series approaches the conclusion of its fifth season, excitement is at an all-time high. Streaming figures from its launch indicated that the show attracted around 4.1 million viewers per episode. Over time, it has evolved into one of the most discussed series on Prime Video, thanks to its unique style, dark humor, and intense storytelling.

In the interview, Kripke elaborated on how the team secured Samuel L. Jackson’s involvement. He mentioned that they aimed to give the character Xander a strong and instantly recognizable voice, leading them to consider Jackson early in the process.

Kripke stated: “It became like a joke for us, how can we find the biggest and classiest actor to voice one of Deep’s ocean pals. We just went to our casting director and we said, ‘just ask.’ And we knew we needed someone with just remarkably unique voice. So he was really our first and only choice of like, we need someone who in 5 seconds you go: ‘oh my god I know exactly who that is,’ right?”

“They went to his reps, and his reps were like: ‘I’m sure the answer will be no, but I’ll ask.’ And they went to ask, and they said: ‘Yeah if you can do it on this date, he’s a fan of the show he will do it.’ And he was in New York, and I was in LA, but I got to sit in on the recording room booth as he was improvising and recording. And talk about a dream come true moment, you’ve got like Samuel L. Jackson reading your dialogue lines in the most Sam Jackson way possible. It doesn’t get any better.” Kripke added.

The character Xander is quite unusual, depicted as a hammerhead shark who becomes part of the chaotic underwater narrative involving The Deep. Initially, Xander appears as an ally during a mission but later returns with a more aggressive agenda following events that impact ocean life in the storyline.

This cameo aligns with a trend the show has been developing over time. In previous seasons, ‘The Boys’ has also featured well-known voices in unexpected roles, such as Ambrosius, voiced by Tilda Swinton in Season 4.

As the narrative progresses, the series is building toward a significant final conflict. The storyline is gearing up for a large-scale confrontation between humans and superpowered beings, with characters like Homelander and Billy Butcher at the forefront of this escalating tension.

The show is also expanding its universe through crossover characters and new story connections, including links to its spin-off ‘Gen V’. This has introduced additional characters and heightened the overall tension within the storyline.

As the season nears its final episode, the story is heading towards what is anticipated to be a highly intense conclusion. While specifics remain under wraps, the trajectory of the show suggests a chaotic finale, with many characters likely facing significant transformations.

For now, Kripke’s comments highlight a straightforward goal: the team sought a powerful voice for a wild character, and they succeeded in enlisting one of the most recognizable actors in the world to deliver it.
