The Nominees for the 49th Annual Kodansha Manga Awards Have Been Announced
In the world of manga, one of the biggest and most prestigious awards is the annual Kodansha Manga Award, which is awarded by the titular publishing company from Japan.
Established in 1977, the award has since honored various authors and their works for their exceptional contributions to the world of manga.
In anticipation of this year’s ceremony, which is going to be the 49th one, Kodansha has revealed the nominees in the three main categories of the award and we are going to list them here!
This year, the awards will be given out in three categories – Shōnen, Shōjo, and General (there was a fourth category, Children, at one point, but has since been canceled) – and the nominees are as follows:
Best Shōnen Manga
- Wind Breaker, by Satoru Nii
- The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity (was also nominated in 2024 and 2023), by Saka Mikami
- Kagurabachi, by Takeru Hokazono
- Versus, by ONE, Kyōtarō Azuma and BOSE
- Orion’s Board, by Naoshi Arakawa
- Fermat no Ryōri, by Yūgo Kobayashi
Best Shōjo Manga
- How I Met My Soulmate, by Anashin
- The Ayakashi Hunter’s Tainted Bride, by Midori Yūma and Mamenosuke Fujimaru
- Fall in Love, You False Angels, by Coco Uzuki
- Re-Living My Life with a Boyfriend Who Doesn’t Remember Me, by Eiko Mutsuhana, Yugiri Aika, and Gin Shirakawa
- Gazing at the Star Next Door, by Ammitsu
Best General Manga
- Under Ninja, by Kengo Hanazawa
- Onna no Sono no Hoshi (also nominated in 2023), by Yama Wayama
- Spacewalking With You, by Inuhiko Doronoda
- Nezumi no Hatsukoi, by Riku Ōseto
- Historie, by Hitoshi Iwaaki
Just note that some famous titles like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Attack on Titan, Blue Box, Blue Period, Vinland Saga, and others have all won this prestigious award at one point.
The winners will be announced on May 12.
