White House Faces Backlash Over AI Video Featuring Trump as Green Lantern
The White House has ignited a flurry of reactions online after releasing an AI-generated video depicting President Donald Trump as the superhero Green Lantern.
This brief video was shared on the official White House account on X, coinciding with the airing of HBO’s new series ‘Lanterns’, which centers on Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart, making the timing particularly noteworthy.
In the AI video, Trump is portrayed wearing a glowing green power ring, utilizing its powers to construct a massive border wall. Additional scenes depict him at a large construction site and near military aircraft, culminating with Trump striking a pose reminiscent of the superhero.
The post also features the iconic Green Lantern oath: “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!”
The video is set to Kanye West’s track “Flashing Lights,” adding another unexpected twist to the White House’s post.
The Daily Beast covered the video, pointing out several oddities in the AI-generated footage, including a noticeable error where the Green Lantern ring is shown in the middle of Trump’s hand instead of on a finger.
This post from the White House comes amid a broader surge of AI-generated content featuring Trump and his administration.
Trump has also shared a variety of unusual AI images and videos on his Truth Social account. One image depicted him alongside George Washington in the Oval Office, while another showed him altering a sign for New Mexico to read “New America” before dancing.

Another AI image shared by Trump depicted him on an aircraft carrier while ships were under attack. Additionally, one image illustrated him smashing a piece of land representing Iran with a giant hammer adorned with an American flag.
Some of the other AI content seemed to heavily draw inspiration from popular films and fictional universes. Trump even shared designs for Space Force uniforms that closely resembled those worn by characters from the Star Wars Galactic Empire.

He also posted a fabricated image of actor Robert De Niro holding a shirt that read, “Trump is my president.” De Niro has been a vocal critic of Trump, leaving it unclear whether Trump was aware of the image’s authenticity when he shared it.

The Green Lantern video quickly became a target for online critics. Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger ridiculed the post, stating: “This is some of the stupidest c–p I’ve ever seen. It’s actually funny and pathetic.”
Democratic strategist Jon Cooper also weighed in, criticizing Trump by saying: “Trump is a total nut job. Anyone who still supports him at this point is as crazy as he is.”
The response illustrates how swiftly AI-generated political content can evolve into a viral topic. With ‘Lanterns’ currently airing and the White House continuing to utilize AI images in its social media strategy, this unusual Green Lantern video stands as a recent example of the intersection between politics and pop culture online.
