It’s quite comforting to see a franchise that debuted nearly thirty years ago continue to resonate with viewers amidst the ever-evolving landscape of streaming content. Currently, one of Will Smith’s most cherished sci-fi comedies is demonstrating its enduring appeal.

Hulu’s current offerings have turned into a nostalgic collection of ’90s and early 2000s hits, and audiences are clearly responding. Among the standout titles attracting significant attention, a duo of secret agents sporting sunglasses has made a surprisingly strong impact on the platform’s daily rankings.

According to FlixPatrol, ‘Men in Black’ recently secured the No. 4 spot on Hulu’s Top 10 chart in the United States, following ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ ‘Solo Mio,’ and the iconic ‘Jurassic Park.’ The film also achieved the No. 7 position on Hulu’s overall Top 10 chart and gained traction on MGM Plus via Amazon Channels, where it ranked No. 7 on that service’s chart.

This resurgence in popularity can be attributed to a recent addition to the platform. The entire ‘Men in Black’ trilogy became available on Hulu starting August 1, 2026, with the original 1997 film, ‘Men in Black II,’ and ‘Men in Black 3’ all added at once, along with Spanish language versions of each film. Notably, ‘Men in Black International’ from 2019 was not included in this August release.

The original ‘Men in Black’ features Agents K and J, portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones and Smith, as they investigate a series of seemingly disconnected criminal activities linked to extraterrestrials living covertly on Earth, with Linda Fiorentino, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Rip Torn in supporting roles. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the film is based on a screenplay by Ed Solomon and the Marvel Comics series created by Lowell Cunningham.

The franchise’s financial success further highlights its lasting appeal. The 1997 original grossed $589 million worldwide against a $90 million production budget and boasts a 91 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its sequel arrived in 2002, and although critics were less enthusiastic, ‘Men in Black 3’ surpassed the original in box office earnings, bringing in over $624 million when it was released in 2012.

The ability of two films from over twenty years ago to compete with new releases on a busy streaming chart speaks volumes about a franchise’s staying power. Do ‘Men in Black’ and ‘Men in Black II’ still resonate with you as they did when Agents K and J first donned their suits, or does the nostalgia only stretch so far?
