‘Coyote vs. ACME’ Releases ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Parody Teaser and Bugs Bunny Returns
Few films in recent memory have experienced a journey as tumultuous as ‘Coyote vs. ACME’. This live-action and animation hybrid comedy began its development in 2018, with an initial theatrical release planned for 2023. However, in a surprising move, Warner Bros. Discovery removed the film from its schedule and announced in November 2023 that it would not be released, opting instead for a tax write-off of approximately $30 million.
The backlash was intense, drawing criticism from filmmakers and even a congressman. In response to this pressure, Warner Bros. allowed the creative team to seek other buyers for the film. The path remained challenging, but the project ultimately found a new home. Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film in 2025, and shortly before the trailer’s release, the company formed a distribution partnership with V10 Entertainment to handle sales across its film catalog.
With the film now officially heading to theaters, the marketing team has made a bold and playful first impression. Ketchup Entertainment released a teaser for ‘Coyote vs. ACME’ on Tax Day, announcing that the full trailer would drop the following week. The teaser cleverly parodied the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ style and concluded with the cheeky promise that “Bugs Bunny will return,” a nod to the classic Marvel post-credits tradition of hinting at future heroes.
This gag resonates even more considering what fans know about Bugs’ role in the film. Eric Bauza voices nine characters, with Bugs Bunny acting as a deep-throat-style informant for Will Forte’s lawyer character. In the teaser, Wile E. and his legal team meet a shadowy figure in a trenchcoat, whose long ears and love for carrots make his identity unmistakable. This self-aware humor seems to be a central theme of the film.
Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch, the film features a star-studded cast including Will Forte, Lana Condor, John Cena, P.J. Byrne, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán, alongside beloved Looney Tunes characters like Tweety, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, and Foghorn Leghorn in significant supporting roles and cameos.
The full trailer also showcases appearances from Road Runner, Porky Pig, and includes a humorous voiceover where a narrator states that “the ACME Corporation is releasing this film for accounting purposes only,” a direct jab at Warner Bros. Fans online have been enjoying every moment of it.
Will Forte, who portrays attorney Kevin Avery, expressed his astonishment that the film made it to this point, admitting he “never thought it would happen” and sharing his genuine excitement for audiences to finally see it. ‘Coyote vs. ACME’ is set to hit theaters on August 28, 2026.
Whether Bugs Bunny’s “return” hints at a larger role or is merely the film’s playful nod to Marvel, one thing is certain: this scrappy underdog film has certainly earned its moment in the spotlight. For those who grew up watching Wile E. Coyote’s misadventures, the idea of him finally getting justice in court is undeniably satisfying.
