Filming for The Odyssey started on February 25, 2025, in Aït Benhaddou, Morocco. From March 10 to 21, the crew filmed in the Messenia area of Greece, including places like Pylos, Methoni Castle, and several beaches.

They shot important scenes with the Cyclops Polyphemus there, as well as at an ancient palace in Corinth. The production worked with a local company in Greece and got a cash rebate for filming there.

By the end of March, the team moved to Sicily, Italy, filming around the Aeolian Islands, especially on Favignana Island, which is mentioned in the original story. In early May, filming continued on a studio set in Los Angeles, and we knew the movie is also expected to shoot scenes in the UK, Scotland, and Ireland.

Now it seems that the movie is moving to Scotland as notable industry insider UnBoxPHD recently shared images of what appears to be the setup for The Odyssey filming in Scotland.

Filming is set to begin soon in and around the Scottish town of Buckie, including some scenes filmed at sea. Parts of the shoot will take place near Findlater Castle, which will remain closed to the public until mid-July.

The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Ancient Greek king of Ithaca, and follows his journey home after the Trojan War to reunite with his wife, Penelope. The ensemble cast also features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.

The Odyssey is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on July 17, 2026.
