‘One Piece Fest’ Transforms 87-Foot Dome Into Unforgettable Anime Experience
‘One Piece‘ has cultivated a dedicated fanbase over nearly three decades, and Toei Animation is finally delivering an event that reflects this immense passion. After years of pop-up cafés and various attractions worldwide, the franchise has launched its first large-scale celebration focused entirely on its fans.
This celebration, named ‘One Piece Fest,’ took place at Cosm Los Angeles on August 25 and 26. This inaugural event, part of Toei’s “All One Piece” concept, aimed to bring the universe of Eiichiro Oda’s Straw Hat Crew to life in a way never before seen in North America.
The festival’s main attraction is being hailed as one of the most impressive anime experiences ever created. Attendees have shared videos from inside Cosm’s enormous 87-foot diameter LED dome, where a specially crafted “Elbaph Experience” envelops a 5,000-square-foot, 12K by 10K display across the ceiling and walls, fully immersing guests in the latest story arc of the series.
Fan reactions online illustrate the overwhelming nature of the experience, with attendees describing the sensation of stepping into an endless, swirling wall of ‘One Piece’ footage that surrounds them. This immersive scale is precisely what Cosm’s dome technology was designed for, and pairing it with one of anime’s most beloved franchises has garnered attention beyond just those who purchased tickets.
In addition to the dome, ‘One Piece Fest’ occupies approximately 95,000 square feet of both indoor and outdoor space, featuring recreations of locations from the series’ 19 past story arcs, from its early East Blue adventures to the current Elbaph arc. The event also includes reimagined immersive environments, giant manga cover displays, a curated exhibition of props and costumes from the live-action adaptation, and live music performances on an outdoor stage.
Access to the festival has been meticulously managed from the outset. Only 7,000 fans are allowed to attend over the two days, divided into four sessions of 1,750 attendees each. Tickets were distributed through a lottery system that closed registration back in May, with winners receiving single-use passwords to purchase tickets in pairs, creating an exclusive atmosphere rather than a typical open convention.
The timing of the festival coincides with One Piece Day, the franchise’s annual celebration commemorating the manga’s debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997. It also aligns with the ongoing Elbaph arc, which has been unfolding since the anime returned with new episodes in April, providing Toei with a prime opportunity to generate excitement around the current storyline.
‘One Piece Fest’ is part of a larger trend of the franchise expanding its presence beyond the pages and screens. With pop-up cafés in cities like Las Vegas and Netflix developing its live-action adaptation alongside a newly announced anime remake project with Wit Studio, it’s clear that Oda’s pirate saga continues to grow across various mediums.
For a franchise built on decades of serialized storytelling, witnessing fans become physically enveloped in that world inside a glowing dome marks a significant milestone.
